Montgomery County Jail Roster Overview
The official current-custody roster is the Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck - Persons In Custody page. It is linked from the sheriff's jail page as Inmates in Custody and is hosted through the Miami Valley Jails portal. The provider table lists MONT-JAIL, Montgomery County Jail, the inmate information phone line, the current population, and a 30-minute update interval. On June 24, 2026 around 11:30 a.m. Eastern, the public roster showed 491 to 492 current detainees.
The roster covers current Montgomery County Jail custody only. It should not be used as the main search for sentenced ODRC prisoners, federal sentenced prisoners, immigration detainees after transfer, or MonDay Community Correctional Institution residents. If a person is not listed, the next step is not always a new roster search. A new booking may still be in intake, a released person may require a sheriff records request, and a sentenced person may have moved to an ODRC or federal locator.
Use the Montgomery County Roster
The roster is name-oriented and alphabet-driven. The captured homepage did not show a full-text search box. It showed A through Z links under Search by Last Name and header controls for Home, Print, Last, First, Help, FAQs, and Who can I call? A search attempt can route to a human-verification screen, so a normal browser session may need to complete a captcha before results appear.
- Open the sheriff's jail page or go directly to the Persons in Custody roster.
- Read the provider table first and confirm it lists MONT-JAIL and Montgomery County Jail.
- Choose the first letter of the person's last name under Search by Last Name.
- Complete any human-verification code if the roster sends the session to CheckCaptcha.ASPX.
- Use the roster result, jail phone line, court records, or public-record request based on whether the person is still in custody.

That roster view is the best official first stop for current custody, but it should be paired with phone or court channels when timing is uncertain.

Montgomery County Inmate Record Fields
The research capture did not reach a live sample detainee profile because the last-name search redirected to captcha. For that reason, Montgomery County inmate records should not be described as publishing every common jail field unless a human session confirms it. The county roster is safe to use for current custody and provider data. Detailed charges, bond activity, and case status should be checked against the jail phone line and court records.

Montgomery County Records Fallbacks

For a very recent arrest, wait for intake and the 30-minute roster refresh, then call the Inmate Information Line at (937) 225-4160. For booking questions, the jail staff page lists the Booking Sergeant at (937) 225-4034. For offense or crash reports, the Sheriff's Office records page and report-copy guidance say to wait at least three business days after the incident and call the Records Section at (937) 225-4096. The records page also states that records maintained by the office may be inspected or copied within a reasonable time.
In-person questions should be routed with care. The jail public address is 345 W. Second Street, Dayton, OH 45422, while legal mail uses 330 W. Second Street, Dayton, OH 45422. The property and evidence page warns that public parking is not available on the premises for that office area, and property release may require an appointment and valid photo ID. Calling first is usually more useful than arriving without knowing whether the person is in the jail, in court, released, or transferred.

Booking Process in Montgomery County
A jail record begins after arrest, warrant service, or transfer into Montgomery County Jail custody. Intake can include identification, custody entry, property handling, a booking number, health screening, mental-health screening, and classification. Montgomery County's medical page says Naphcare provides medical and dental care and that medical staff are on duty 24/7. It also says mental-health counselors are available 24/7 and that mental-health screening occurs during booking.
The public roster can trail real events because the person must first be processed and the roster must refresh. The jail also runs video arraignment from the jail for several courts, including Vandalia Municipal Court, Miamisburg Municipal Court, Kettering Municipal Court, Montgomery County Area #1 and #2 Courts, and Common Pleas Court. That means the person may be physically at the jail while the first court event happens by video. Bond, release, or continued detention then depends on the court order and any holds.

Montgomery County Jail Visitation
Montgomery County Jail visitation is video-based through SmartInmate. The sheriff's inmate information page says jail lobby video visits are available at no cost to inmates and family or friends. Each inmate is allowed two 30-minute visits per week, with only one visit per day. Visits must be registered and scheduled one day in advance at SmartInmate. If a visitor does not have internet or computer access, the published scheduling phone number is 727-349-1561.

Montgomery County Inmate Mail Money
Ordinary mail does not go to the downtown jail address. Regular postcards, letters, greeting cards, and similar mail are routed through Smart Communications and MailGuard for scanning. Money can be deposited at the automated lobby kiosk 24/7 or through JailATM. The sheriff page says the kiosk accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and cash, with no personal checks. Care packages are handled through iCare. Phone calls use Pay Tel. The jail does not forward incoming calls or take inmate messages, and inmate calls are allowed in 20-minute increments before the call ends.

Montgomery County Bond Records
Bond information should be confirmed before anyone goes to the jail. The sheriff's inmate information page says bond may be posted 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the Inmate's Property Room Window in the lobby of the Montgomery County Jail. The page instructs the public to call (937) 224-8447 to check bond amounts. It also says Ohio House Bill 1 requires a bail surcharge in addition to bond and court costs, and that the surcharge can be as much as $85 for each bond.
A bond is not the same as a case ending. It is a court-set release condition, and a person may still have court dates, charge review, warrants, probation or parole issues, federal holds, or ICE issues. If a hold is active, posting a local bond may not release the person. Court records after booking are the better place to track formal charges, case status, docket entries, and disposition.
